shrine at Tarakeswar.

 It is one of the most acclaimed religious destinations
 in  the 
 district of Hooghly. This temple town acclaims millions of 
 pilgrims from all through India and also from
 foreign countries. 
 The famous Tarakeshwar temple is meant to
 Lord Shiva and is a 
 major shivaite pilgrim center coming 
 under the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. 
 The temple has an
 'atchala' building structure with a 'natmandir' 
 (Place for offering prayers) 
 in front. The temple premises host shrines of Kali and
 Lakshmi-Narayan. 

 Every yearTarakeshwar is overwhelmed by the flow of 

 pilgrims during the Sravan month (July – August) when 
 special offerings to the Lord are made. Maha Shivratri 
 is an important festival in
 this town, which is, celebrated with major fairs and 
 shopping 
 festivals in a grandeur style in the 
 month of February-March. Other festivals celebrated 
 here are 
 the Bengali New Year or the Chaitra Sankranti 
 festival. But 
 each Monday being special for Lord Shiva to pray,
 many people 
 gather to offer their prayers.

 One can go for one-day tours from this place to

 nearby cities. 
 Tarakeshwar has Gopdanga, Chautara, Magra and 
 Balgarh as 
 neighboring towns 
 and all these towns offer the Tarakeshwar 
 pilgrims the 
 necessary comforts and accommodations.

Sunderban tour













West Bengal encircles some unique destinations to be explored. Several places are behind the curtains and some are very familiar where people intend to have the full view to enjoy. The Sundarban forest is nowadays very popular as the Government of the state is trying promoting the place in every possible ways and thereby improving it as a tourist spot.
The Sundarban forest lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal formed by the super confluence of the Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers across Saiyan southern Bangladesh. The seasonally flooded Sundarbans freshwater swamp forests lie inland from the mangrove forests on the coastal fringe.  It became inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997. The Sundarbans is occupied by water bodies in the forms of river, canals and creeks of width varying from a few meters to several kilometers. The main attractions are the dense forest and the wildlife. Many dwelling places for the travelers have emerged but staying in lounge would be more exciting and adventurous. The interconnected network of waterways makes almost every corner of the forest accessible by boat. The area is known for the eponymous Royal Bengal Tiger (Panther Tigris Tigris), as well as numerous fauna including species of birds, spotted deer, crocodiles and snakes.
The best season to visit the place is September to May but winter months are best to be enjoyed.

Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary 

Being very close to Sundarban, the charming tourist place known for lodging, breeding land and for the world biggest estuarine crocodiles is Sajnekhali bird sanctuary.It is considered as one of the parts of Sundarban. The people there, maintain rich variety of birds population and visitors can view different colorful types of Plovers, Sandpipers, Lapwin, and provide a wonderful natural view, to the eyes. At this sanctuary Kingfisher, White Sea Eagle, Whimbrelsand Curfews. Other than a heronry, the Sajnekhali sanctuary has a visitor center, where people can view the Crocodile field, a turtle hatchery, a Mangrove Interpretation, a shark pond centre.

Halliday Island
This Island is located near to south of Sundarban Tiger forest. It is the Wildlife Sanctuary containing the Barking deer and the Lothian Wildlife sanctuary encircled with variety of birds.

Kanak
The beaches, and the shallow waters in Kanak, provide the visitors a wonderful sight from all tourist places. It is the most popular place, for Olive Ridley Turtles, in Sundarban. At the time of breeding season, the Olive Ridley turtles travel from the long distance to these coastal waters. It is unbelievable that, the turtles migrate upriver of about100 km distance, from sea mouth to Sundarban
In Sundarban Tiger forest, tourists can get the local dishes tastefully and specifically cooked for people, by the local chef. Many different varieties are not possible; still they provide the best possible foods, under the strict supervision. Fruits, vegetables come fromthe natural gardens, of their villages, crabs and fresh fishes occupy from the ponds and rivers, chicken from village farms, and get fresh honey from honey collector house.

Netidhopani
Visit the Netidhopani, where the visitors can view the shells, of 400-year-old temples

Kaikhali Island
If a visitor goes to Sundarban, he/she shouldn’t miss a visit to the pretty Kaikhali Island. With its charming beauty, and natural surroundings, it makes an ideal tourist destination, for all.

Piyali
It is near to Sundarban, just from 48 kms so far. It is the Gateway, for Tiger Reserve. Piyali is very close to Sajnekhali, Netidhopani, and Sudhanyakhali, and 72 kms from Kolkata. It contains a small river, which flows by the green paddy areas, and the wonderful Piyali delta makes this place a charming picnic spot.

For accommodations
There is a Sundarban Jungle camp, near the Bali Island; it contains the Eco Lodge, where you can accommodate with sophisticate rooms, the rooms constructed with rural architectures, and arranged with local furniture. Pleasant room with modern bathrooms, big dining hall, and balcony attached with outer surface, and the atmosphere looks like greenery land, trees and river beside the lodge. There is a pollution free energy, with the powerful generator, arranged backside of the room. Local foods, pure drinking water and the natural surroundings make the people to stay for a long time.

HOW TO REACH

The entry point to Sunderban Tiger Reserve is either Sonakhali via Canning, or Bagna via Dhamakhali. For visiting South 24 Parganas Forest Division, on the western part of river Matla, the entry points are Namkhana, Raidighi or Jharkhali via Canning/Basanti.. Entry Permits are available at Canning, Sonakhali and Bagna for STR and at Canning, Namkhana and Raidighi for Western part of Sunderban Forest.

By Air:

Dum Dum (166kms), is the nearest airport at Kolkata.

By rail:

The nearest railhead is at Canning, 48 kms away. The nearest town is Gosaba, 50 kms away.
Sundarbans is accessible only by riverine waterways. From Kolkata there are suburban trains to Canning and road transport to Namkhana, Raidighi, Sonakhali and Najat from where Motor launch services are available for Sundarbans.

Road:

Above-mentioned embarkation points from Kolkata are: Namkhana (105 km), Sonakhali (100 km), Raidighi (76 km), Canning (64 km), Najat (92 km).

Digha Sea Beach



Digha, presents a romantic sea beach, full of enjoyable sites for a large number of people from West Bengal and other states. The large rocky and sandy beach attracts the romantic couples and promotes cheap honeymoon and family holiday packages. This place has become easy to afford for all sections of people. There is no particular season for Digha,but the winter months are most exciting because of numerous sea festivals and fairs. It’s serene beauty and her beautiful beach will have you coming back for more vacations here. Honeymoon couples beware! You may never want to go back from this secluded paradise.

To Reach by Bus

Digha is a 4-5 hour journey by bus from Kolkata. There are regular and frequent services to Digha from the Bus Terminus in Kolkata. Buses run from 4AM to!:30PM and there is a afternoon bus service from the same state transport depot. Service is regular and residents from Esplanade,Jadavpur, Tollygunj, Sonarpur can easily use the good service.

SHANKARPUR
The beach at Shankarpur can be reached easily by taking a bus,car or van which are available from morning. The distance covers only 14 km from Digha. The main attraction is the endless stretch of sea meeting beach.

MOHONA
The  foodies are most welcome to the large kitchens of sea foods at Mohona. It can be availed from Digha by van

TALSHARI
A small delta on Bay of Bengal, only 6 km away from Digha, located on Bengal-Orissa border. A quiet place, close to both sea and Subarnarekha River can be reached by van or car available at Digha.

TAJPUR
Not for a luxury traveller but for the adventurer. Stay in tents, do rock climbing on an artificial wall, do zorbing, enjoy para sailing, rafting & kayaking in sea water, nature walk, play beach volleyball or cricket or football. There is no electricity but there is always a pleasant breeze flowing. They run generator from 6 PM to 6 AM. There are tents as well as rooms available. Tents are a bit stuffy as the jute walls smell a lot.

MANDARMONI
One can avail car or bus,van from Digha .Mandarmani is one of Bengal’s recently developed tourist destination With sun and surf, pristine sea beach and untrammeled silt coloured sand, this beach is slowly becoming popular among the tourists.
Mandarmani boasts of a 13 km longest motorable beach road in India. On the beach you will undoubtedly get the chance to feel the divinity and tranquility. If that is not enough to please your senses, then try to loll on the sand and listen to the waves crashing upon the shore, which will surely drive away your bustling pressure.
